Like any other day when you attend the Institute of Professional Bookkeepers (IPBC) conference, we have jam-packed, full day of value that we can bring home and apply to you, our customers.
We start at 8:00am and finish at 4:00pm — it’s a non-stop jump from one session to the next.
The day began with two sessions with Service Canada that touched on Employment Insurance (EI), Canada Pension Plan (CPP) and Old Age Security (OAS), as well as an overview of what Service Canada can do to help our customers. Needless to say, we spent considerable time discussing how we can continue to help our customers help themselves.
Payroll & Efficiency
On that subject, we also spent time talking about current and emerging issues in payroll. Are you ready for the upcoming minimum wage increases? We shared how we eliminate paper in our customers’ offices, and why TSheets can help save money on payroll costs.
Speaking on that, did you know that the average employee wastes 15 hours per week? That is 780 hours per year that employers pay for — yet could be saving — per employee. Consider the savings that you, the employer, can gain by implementing this efficiency.
Insurance & Processes
And let’s talk about insurance! Do you need Errors and Omission insurance? What about General Liability? Where do you go for this information?
We also talked about tightening our own processes so that we can be a bigger benefit to you, the customer. It’s about being more efficient so that we are more accessible and reachable.
But my favourite part of the day was this: discussing the process of helping our customers by not billing them by the hour. Knowing that you are only paying a set dollar amount each month based on conversations that are initiated by you is what the new bookkeeper needs to do.
Why are you writing a blank cheque to your bookie? Is it time to have a conversation that allows you to focus on building your business without worrying what it will cost?
Today has been a busy and productive day, and we have “left the building” with our heads spinning full of new information. Tomorrow is another day, and tomorrow starts with yours truly speaking about building a forward-thinking firm that makes you, the customer, our priority.
Until the next time,
